Unit 28 P2/P3

Download Speed - The download speed can affect how fast a webpage can load on the user's computer. If the user's download speed is slow then the download speed of the webpage will be slower. The faster the download speed, the faster the webpage will load. When I create my own website I will take the download speed into consideration by using less images and videos so that the webpage will load quicker. I will make sure that each web page will take as little time to load so that the users are not wasting time waiting for lots of images to load.

PC Performance - The PC Performance can affect how fast a webpage can load. There are many factors that contribute the the PC performance including; web browser, cache memory and the processor speed. The web browser can change how your PC loads web pages as most require plug-ins to be downloaded onto the computer before the webpage can be accessed. The cache memory and processor can cause issues especially when you are using an old computer. This is because these cannot be updated past a certain date therefore new quicker software cannot be used.  When creating my website, I will take into PC Performance into consideration as people may not have an up to date computer. Also the processor could be quite slow therefore will take a while to load. When creating my website I will try to use very few files so that my web page will load faster.

Web Server Capacity - The web server capacity affects how fast/slow a web page will load on a user’s computer. If the user’s web server capacity has a small bandwidth capacity, this will mean that the web page will load at a slower pace. To put this into a simpler way, an example of this would be a small local corner shop compared to a worldwide company such as Wal-Mart. When I make my website I will ensure that it is basic so that minimal bandwidth is used. This will also mean that my web page will load at an average rate on most computers.

File Types – How fast a webpage loads on a computer depends on the file types you use. Some of the file types which computers load include JPEG and GIF. Other file types may require additional plug-ins to be installed onto the computer for example Adobe Flash Player. Once this has been installed, the web page will then be able to load. When I create my website I will take the file type into consideration so that it can be accessed by most users. Also I will try and make it accessible without having to use any additional plug-ins.

Unit 1 P5

Unit 1 M3

There are multiple types of learning styles and it avries for everyone what works best e.g. visual, auditory and kinaesthetic.

The visual learning style means that you learn by associating different information to different images. When people learn visually, colours, diagrams and maps help them in learning the information. I have used visual learning this year in IT to teach myself how to create a customized dictionary, add a table of contents and create an index in word. Visual learning can be very beneficial as you can see what you are supposed to be doing which makes it much clearer.

Auditory learning is when you listen to something being explained. This can be listening to a teacher, friend or something online. Hearing something i find makes you remember it more, also when somebody's talking they can go into more depth to make you understand better.

Kinesthetic learning is a way of learning by physically doing something. For example, when I learned how to do different skills on the computer, I first watched videos or read about them then I physically carried out the task myself to ensure that I knew what to do. By doing this, you can see what you need to improve on and what you are still unsure of. It is great practise as the more you do the task, the better you will get.

In conclusion, I usually prefer using visual learning as I can see what I need to do. However, I like to pair this with kinaesthetic learning because it helps me to understand what I actually need to do and what I still need to work on. I do not usually like to use auditory learning because I cannot see what I need to do. I prefer to have a visual image or video to show me specifically what needs to be done. Also, when I listen to something being explained I sometimes forget key information because it is not visually in front of me.

School
The Kingswood School

Subject Audit:
This Subject Audit is designed to help you review your own ICT knowledge and to identify those areas where you anticipate that you may need support.  Throughout Unit 1 you will need to regularly review the development of your subject knowledge as a vital element in your training experience.

How to assess your knowledge:
In the spaces provided on the following pages please classify your status by ticking against the three point scale:

A
I
T
Advanced: can complete task without thinking
Intermediate: can complete task but has to think about it or ask teacher for a reminder.  This needs to be added to the training plan as a low priority Training need.
Training required: This needs to be added to the training plan as high priority training need.
